Privacy policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
In short: FrameAnvil has no tracking, analytics or advertising, and we never sell information about you. It works entirely on your computer, and your projects and media never leave it. It goes online only to check app.frameanvil.com for updates (which you can turn off) and to confirm your licence key; everything else, automatic captions and background removal included, works offline. If you buy FrameAnvil, our reseller Lemon Squeezy handles the payment and gives us your name, email address and order details so we can send your key and help you.
The FrameAnvil app
FrameAnvil is a desktop application. It doesn’t require an account, and it has no analytics, crash reports, advertising or tracking of any kind.
Everything it works with stays on your device:
- Your media and projects. FrameAnvil reads the files you import and writes the projects and exports you save, only where you choose.
- Working files. To stay fast, it keeps some files in its own folder on your computer: thumbnails and timeline filmstrips, pictures rendered from Illustrator and PDF files, and temporary files while an export runs (deleted when it finishes).
- Crash recovery. While you edit, unsaved changes are copied to a recovery file in that folder, so your work can be restored if the app closes unexpectedly. The copy is deleted when you save or close normally.
- Settings. Panel sizes, your export encoder, whether the welcome screen appears and your list of recent projects are kept on your computer.
- Trial and licence. The date your free trial started and, once you activate one, your licence key and the name and email address it was bought under.
You can delete all of this at any time by removing FrameAnvil’s folder:
| System | Folder |
|---|---|
| Windows | %APPDATA%\FrameAnvil |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/FrameAnvil |
| Linux | ~/.config/FrameAnvil |
Update checks
Copies downloaded from app.frameanvil.com check for a newer version shortly after they start and every few hours while they run. To do that, FrameAnvil asks our server for a small file describing the latest release (and, when there is one, downloads the update). Like any request on the internet, this tells our server your IP address, along with the FrameAnvil version and the kind of computer it runs on (sent by your system as part of the request). Nothing about you, your projects or your files is sent. On Linux, the .deb version keeps its AI models in a separate package: when an update needs newer models, or you choose to install them, that package is downloaded from app.frameanvil.com the same way.
The server’s standard logs of these requests are kept for a short time to run the service and keep it secure, and aren’t used to identify or track anyone.
To stop automatic checks, turn off Help › Check for Updates Automatically. You can still check yourself with Check for Updates…. Copies from an app store don’t contact us at all: the store handles their updates.
Automatic captions and background removal
Captions, cut-outs and automatic colour are made entirely on your computer, by AI models that all come with FrameAnvil. Nothing is downloaded when you use them, they don't connect to the internet, and your recordings and pictures never leave your computer.
Licence keys
When you enter a licence key, FrameAnvil sends it to Lemon Squeezy (our reseller, below) to activate it on this computer, together with a name for the computer (its computer name and system, such as “Studio-PC (Windows)”) so you can tell your activations apart. About once a week while you’re online, it sends the key and that activation’s ID again to confirm the key is still valid (for example, that it wasn’t refunded). Removing the licence from a computer (Help › Licence…) sends the same details to free the activation. Nothing about your projects or files is sent, and FrameAnvil keeps working offline.
The free trial is counted entirely on your computer; nothing is sent while you try FrameAnvil.
Buying FrameAnvil
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our online reseller and Merchant of Record, under its own privacy policy. Lemon Squeezy collects the payment and billing details needed to process the order and handle tax; we never see your card details.
Lemon Squeezy shares with us your name, email address, country and the details of your order (such as the date, amount, licence key and its activations). We use these only to deliver and support your licence, process refunds, answer you, and keep the records the law requires for tax and accounting (generally for seven years). We don’t use them for marketing unless you ask us to, and we don’t sell or share them with anyone else.
You can ask to see, correct or delete this information at privacy@frameanvil.com, apart from what we must keep by law. If you’re in the European Union or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority (in Estonia, the Andmekaitse Inspektsioon).
App stores
If you get FrameAnvil from an app store (such as the Microsoft Store, the Mac App Store, the Snap Store or Flathub), that store handles the download and any updates under its own privacy policy. The store may share anonymous figures with us, such as download counts, crash statistics it gathers itself and the countries installs come from. These don’t identify you.
This website
app.frameanvil.com uses no cookies, analytics or third-party scripts, and loads nothing from other websites. Like any web server, our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) for a short time to run the site and keep it secure; we don’t use them to identify or track visitors.
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply to you, and we don’t share them with anyone.
Children
FrameAnvil isn’t sold to children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If a future version of FrameAnvil changes what it connects to or sends, this policy will be updated first, and the change will be described here with a new date.
